Local church vindicated in Common Pleas eviction, land contract, forgery ruling
June 21, 2023
The Franklin County Court of Common Pleas recently issued a decision favorable to a church whose pastor was falsely accused of signing a land contract with a tenant of the Church's property in Columbus, Ohio.
"The Court methodically and thoughtfully worked through the forgery and property theft offenses, the forcible entry and detainer statutes, and unjust enrichment issues at play in the Lord Jesus Christ's Church v. Crockett case," said McCreary Williams, Plaintiff's trial attorney in this case. We now have more clarity about what constitutes 'forgery' in land contract cases, and how indispensable the testimony is of a qualified forensic handwriting expert."
"I'm very happy for the pastor, the congregation, the neighborhood, and the Church, for patiently waiting for justice in this case as they have been trying to evict the occupants who allegedly engaged in violent and illegal activity, for several years."
"If this case should make its way up to the Court of Appeals, I will be ready to continue advocating for the Church and community for a responsible application of the forgery, eviction, and land contract statutes. They deserve to live and worship in peace."
